Thanks for your interest in BeauTease Burlesque! Audition sign-ups are open!
The audition consists of a short, personal interview. Applicants will also be taught a striptease choreography as a group. Please bring the following clothes: a button down shirt or blouse; a back-closing bra; a skirt with a zipper or elastic waist; and a pair of shoes you can dance in. Please do not bring sneakers. Please do bring some sort of dance shoe. We will be stripping out of our bras. If you wish to wear pasties you are welcome to, but please bring some. They will not be provided.
Please fill out this form as completely as you can. If you can't fill out everything, that's OK. Please bring or upload a photo of yourself and if you have a theatrical/dance resumé, please bring that as well.
Auditions are located at The Tony Williams Dance Center, 284 Amory St, Jamaica Plain, MA 02130. The Stony Brook stop on the Orange Line is very close and there is free parking.
Burlesque is a ‘big tent’ performing art, utilizing aspects of many different dance forms, acting, and striptease. In your time with The BeauTease you may learn theatrical techniques from Commedia dell’Arte or François Delsarte, belly-dance, ballet, modern musicals, and more. You may also learn hair and stage make-up, costuming techniques, construction of props or set pieces, and marketing and promotion. You do not need to be good at all of these things — or even interested in them — when you start with us. We just ask that you bring enthusiasm and a desire to communicate to your time with us.
Our internship program begins almost immediately and runs until the end of October. To a certain extent, the time commitment is flexible; if you can make us a priority, we promise we can make you a priority. We currently rehearse in Jamaica Plain on Wednesday and Sunday evenings (7pm to 10pm). The ideal candidate would be able to make both rehearsals each week, but if you can only make one rehearsal per week we may still be able to work with you.
BeauTease Burlesque is committed to performer diversity. We strongly encourage performers of all colors, shapes, sizes, and gender identities to audition. All that said, there is no single “right” body type, skin tone, or level of dance skill for an applicant to have.
Please be aware that we do have a troupe style. Our acts evoke a fantasy of a Golden Age of Burlesque that never really was; a blend of classic Hollywood and pin-up girls, of glamour and glitz. There certainly is burlesque out there that has other aesthetics and if your passion is one of those, we may not be the place for you.
